extreme makeover - kitchen edition

When we first moved into our house 3 1/2 years ago there were a "few" things we wanted to do. We did a lot B.C. {before child} but we kept putting off a couple of the big projects...namely, the kitchen and bathrooms....all of which needed wicked updating. There was this awesome, striped wallpaper circa 1997 in the guest bathroom that had to come down. And, well, 3 years later it finally did. So slowly but surely, we're crossing the big stuff off our list!

The latest project we took on was the kitchen. It also had some wallpaper and an awful border. Don't even get me started on that stupid border... and the even more stupid wallpaper! Can I just tell you that the actual wallpaper was designed to look like faux finished painting!?! I mean why even put the paper up there in the first place??? Just freakin paint it!! And that same lovely paper is in our master bathroom. Nice. I digress...sorry. Okay, so the kitchen...Aaron and I {i say "Aaron and I" but mostly I just mean "I"} took down the wallpaper and border, textured the walls and painted the entire kitchen. What an improvement!!

We didn't live in the house when this picture was taken...it was taken when the house was on the market. Notice the lovely border.

A picture I took right before we took down that hideous wallpaper and border. Just a close up so you can appreciate the ugliness!

So after all of that was done, I went to work on Aaron trying to convince him that our kitchen wasn't complete without new counter tops. He tried to protest, but ultimately he couldn't resist my charms and he gave in! It actually didn't take too much convincing, he knew it would be awesome! Yay!!!! So I did my research and found a great...and local, I might add...tile and granite guy to make our kitchen beautiful. The entire process from beginning to end took less than 2 weeks! And, we couldn't be happier with the results! They did an awesome job, and the owner even installed the backsplash himself. I love my new kitchen, and it's even inspired me to cook more...ha, ya right! You know me better than that!! But I do love it, and now I'm proud of my kitchen!

Demo... and installation... day :)

And finally the finished product!!! Looks like a different kitchen...oh wait, that was the point!
